Hydraulic Fluids:

The hydraulic oil used in the power unit must be compatible both to the pump and to the Jiffy-Drill hydraulic motor. Regular hydraulic oil of 100 to 200 SSU viscosities (rated at 100°F) is compatible with the Jiffy-Drill motors and is compatible with most pumps operating in the pressure and volume range required by the Jiffy-Drill. Alternatively, ATF Type A transmission fluid is also recommended. If the pump will be started cold on a regular basis (each morning, for example), it is important to select an oil which not only has the correct viscosity when up to operating temperature, but also has a high viscosity index (least amount of viscosity change with temperature changes).

Pumps in the power unit may have a 100-mesh wire strainer (for their own protection). However, oil returning from the 4-way control valve should be routed through a 10 to 25 µm filter before being discharged into the reservoir. This is for protection of the Jiffy-Drill motors.

Do not operate the Jiffy-Drill unit in proximity to open flame or other condition, which might ignite from an oil mist generated by a hydraulic hose or fitting developing a leak.
